Molecular Scientist – PhD – Edinburgh – Fixed Term Contract

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for Molecular Biologists / Cell Biologists to join an innovative biotechnology company based in Edinburgh on a fixed term contract basis until Dec 2019. Over the last 18 months the company have enjoyed a significant period of growth and have recently moved into new state-of-the-art laboratories, so it is an ideal time to be joining the team. Their pioneering technology has the potential to drive the biotechnology industry; particularly in cell & gene therapy forward, and could transform the entire sector.

There are multiple positions available due to the company forming exiting collaborations with leading companies within industry. The roles will focus on development and commercialisation of their ground breaking technologies in the area of gene therapy. Key responsibilities will include:

*Successfully undertaking cell and molecular biology experiments
*Good lab management, ensuring appropriate levels of control over scientific data, equipment and materials maintaining appropriate levels of documentation, record keeping, and procedures
*Collaboration with the broader team to complete project deliverables
*Interact with senior members of the research team to ensure appropriate experimental design and analysis
*Housekeeping duties in the laboratory including stock management
*Health and Safety and GMO risk assessments

Essential skills:
*MSc + 2-3 years’ experience in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology or related scientific discipline. OR recently qualified PhD with a max of 1-2 years post-doc.
*Experience in general microbiological and cell culture aseptic working techniques
*Solid technical knowledge of molecular cloning, cell biology techniques, and mammalian tissue culture.
*Experience with a variety of cellular and molecular biology techniques such as cloning, sequence analysis and manipulation, RT-PCR, transcription profiling, assay development, ELISA, transcription activity assays etc.

Desirable skills:
*Candidates with additional experience of bioprocessing and cell line development OR
*Experience of hemopoietic systems (myeloid cells, microglia, microphage) OR
*Experience in gene therapy and gene regulation.
