Web Developer – Genomics
Cambridge – 8 Month contract
This fixed-term role would be ideal for someone experienced in Front – Middle layer web application development with a passion to apply their trade in the Genomics/ Bioinformatics sector. In this role you will be working with the Global Pneumococcal Sequencing teams for the design and delivery of front end / middle layer architecture and development and implementation / scalability and code review. You would be required to communicate with GPS managers to discuss architecture/ requirements and novel solutions as well as developing relationships with internal and external parties.
*Design, architecture, technology assessment and implementation for Front – middle layer web application development and managing the further development of other in-house applications with respect to client delivery.
*To initiate further front-end developments if and where required around the core centre application delivery with close liaison with cGPS/GPS management and other members of the development and scientific team.
*Ensure data generated within cGPS and elsewhere are made available through the use of web technologies to the external scientific community and the public in a timely fashion.
*Proactively monitoring, assessing and actioning (including developing new innovative solutions as well as modifying existing web services) any ‘bigger picture’ requirements with respect to software delivery of the organisation on an on-going basis.
*To further develop cGPS ‘house styles’ and improve coding practices.
*To assess solutions and play a leading role in influencing choice of methodologies leading the front-end development team.
*Establish, develop and maintain open and effective communication with senior members to provide consultancy to management on web services and ensure credibility for future project collaborations
*Enforce and manage best practices and standards-based solutions for the software and data architectures; to keep abreast of current technologies and maintain / develop an understanding of the science; to benchmark, test, enhance and troubleshoot the performance of software both existing and in-development to ensure the data is presented efficiently and accurately and end users receive the best outcome
